Lusófona University -  the largest private university in Portugal

Lusófona University is the largest private university in Portugal and an integral part of the private and cooperative subsystem of Portuguese higher education.

The name of the University derives from the expression "Lusofonia" which designates the common cultural and linguistic space demarcated by the use of the Portuguese language. University Lusófona positions itself as the institution responsible for the scientific, cultural, social and economic development of this geographic and linguistic space with more than 200 million inhabitants.

Civil society and citizens in general expect Universities and higher education institutions in general to be one of the central development poles of their countries and their culture. In the midst of various constraints and adversities, and a national framework at the legal, economic and social level not always favorable, higher education, and in particular private higher education, has been playing this role in Portugal in a globally positive way throughout the past thirty years.

Lusófona University is located in Lisbon, less than 10 minutes taxi distance from the main airport and 15 minutes from the city center by subway. The university possesses several fully equiped halls of conference. All facilities are ready for live streaming of video content.

Getting to Lisbon

Lisbon is one of the best cities in the world for city breaks, since it is affordable, easy to reach and exceptionally beautiful - plus it is a safe city, with friendly people, and exquisite gastronomy.

The outstanding characteristics of Portugal’s capital city have also been recognized by the tourism industry players, with Lisbon having been awarded “World´s Leading City Break Destination” by the World Travel Awards in 2020, after obtaining the same distinction in 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016: https://www.worldtravelawards.com/award-worlds-leading-city-break-destination-2020

Reaching Lisbon by air:

Lisbon International Airport is very close to University Lusófona (about 1 Km) and about 7 km from the city centre. The airport provides daily flights to and from the major cities in Europe and the world. Major international and low-cost companies fly to Lisbon, such as Lufthansa, BA, KLM, SAS, Iberia, Norwegian, AirBaltic, Aegean, AirFrance, American Airlines, Azul, EasyJet, Ryanair, etc.

Reaching Lisbon by sea - and when you are in Lisbon:

Over seven hills, which are as many points of observation whence the most magnificent panoramas may be enjoyed, the vast irregular and many-coloured mass of houses that constitute Lisbon is scattered.
For the traveller who comes in from the sea, Lisbon, even from afar, rises like a fair vision in a dream, clear-cut against a bright blue sky which the sun gladdens with its gold. And the domes, the monuments, the old castles jut up above the mass of houses, like far-off heralds of this delightful seat, of this blessed region.”
 – Fernando Pessoa

One of the greatest Portuguese writers of all time described Lisbon for the tourists in these words, in a city guide written in 1925. And while Lisbon may have changed significantly since then, many of places and spaces described by Fernando Pessoa remain: they are perhaps even more enchanting today, in contrast but also in dialogue with modern and contemporary Lisbon. The Lisbon guide by Fernando Pessoa “Lisbon, What the Tourist Should See” can certainly serve as a starting point to explore the city today:

But there is so much more to see, to hear, to smell, to taste and to touch. The different layers of history which sustain Lisbon, are now the foundation for further dimensions. Lisbon today is also multicultural, even cosmopolitan, open to innovation, with a progressively highly skilled workforce, particularly in the creative industries. There is old and new – come and experience Lisbon from 23 to 25 June 2021.
